Everything you need to know
From putting your SIM card into your dongle, to installing our Mobile Broadband software onto your PC or Mac - you’ll find everything you need to get started right here.
Setting up your SIM & Dongle
Before you get started, please check that:

1. Your computer is running Windows 7 / 2000 / XP / Vista for a PC or OS X for a MAC.

2. Your computer or laptop meets or exceeds the minimum operating requirements for your operating system (Windows or MAC OS X).

3. You have rights to install software on your computer (e.g. business users may need ‘administrator rights’).

4. Finally, if you have anti-virus protection or a firewall you may be prompted to 'allow' installation of your USB modem software.

Putting your SIM into your dongle
Your Mobile Broadband dongle comes with a SIM card, just like your mobile phone. Just follow these instructions to insert the SIM into your dongle:
  1. Remove the cap on the end of your USB dongle.
  2. Pull out the SIM card holder.
  3. Insert your SIM card into the holder as shown (make sure it is the right way around).
  4. Place the SIM card holder (with the fitted SIM) back in your dongle, as shown...

Connecting your dongle to your computer
First you need to start up your computer. Then connect the dongle to your computer in either of these ways:
  1. Insert your dongle directly into a USB port on your computer.
  2. Use the USB extension cable that comes with your dongle to connect it to your computer. This might be more convenient for desktop PCs, but it can also improve signal strength

Setting up our Mobile Broadband Software
Installing our software onto your Windows PC

Once your dongle is connected, you may have to wait a few minutes before the software installation wizard starts. Then:
  1. Read and accept the User License Agreement (if it pops up).
  2. Follow the Mobile Broadband installation wizard - the software will then install automatically.
(Please don’t use the Windows Driver installation wizard (if this comes up) because it won’t fully install the software). Our Mobile Broadband software takes a few seconds or a few minutes to install. It just depends on the speed of your computer.
Installing our software onto your Mac
Once your dongle is connected, you should see a 3Connect icon on your desktop. Click on it, then:
  1. Open the 3Connect installer software.
  2. Read and accept the User License Agreement (if asked)
  3. Enter your password or admin login (if asked)
The 3Connect software will automatically install and it’ll sit in your Applications folder.
Connecting to the internet
Once the software is installed it’s quick and easy to use 3 Mobile Broadband to connect to the internet. Just connect your dongle to your computer and wait for the connection dashboard to appear (it should take about 30 seconds). When it pops up, just click on Connect.

Keep track of your internet usage in My3
  • My3 is a free service that helps you stay in control of what you use and spend. You can check your internet usage, see what you’ve spent, and buy Mobile Broadband Add-ons.
  • You can get to My3 by going to the My3 Account tab in the connection dashboard, or by going to three.co.uk/my3. You can use My3 online, even if you’ve run out of Mobile Broadband credit / allowance.
