Q. |
Can I use the E5830 as a USB Storage Device? |
A. |
Yes you can. Insert a microSD card into the correct slot (On the left side of the E5830, when you hold it face-up). Plugging-in the E5830 to a computer using the provided USB cable mounts the inserted card as a normal removable storage drive. You can then use this just like any other USB storage device. You can only use this functionality when the E5830 is physically connected to your computer using the USB cable. It will not work over WiFi. |

Q. |
Can I use the E5830 with my other wifi compatible products like the walkman, etc? |
A. |
Yes. The E5830 supports any WiFi devices that use the Wireless b and g standards. |
| |
Q. |
Do I have to switch on / switch off the device each time I use it? |
A. |
The device puts itself in a 'deep sleep' mode after 10 minutes of inactivity. To use it when it's in this state, you will have to wake it up by quickly clicking any of the buttons on the device. If you know you won't be using the device for a few hours, it is advisable that you switch the device off, as even deep sleep mode requires a tiny amount of power. |
| |
Q. |
Do I need to install E5830 on my computer before I use it with my gaming or entertainment device? |
A. |
Not at all. You'll be given the default E5830 WiFi network name (SSID) and the network security key with your E5830, which you can use for setting it up with your device. However, installing it on your computer lets you change the network name and assign a password of your choice - highly recommended, because it makes your network more secure and easily identifiable to you. |

Q. |
How about the temperature limit for operating and Storage? |
A. |

Q. |
How do I charge the device? |
A. |
The fastest way to charge the device would be to use the mains wall charger that came with the device. The device can also be charged over USB (connect the device to a PC using the supplied USB cable). However, charging via USB might take significantly longer than charging via mains. |

Q. |
How do I ensure no one else uses my allowance without my knowledge? |
A. |
By making sure that your network is secure. The only way someone could use your allowance is by accessing your E5830's network without your permission and using it for internet access. The first step in doing so is changing the default settings that were preset on the device when you received it. You can change the E5830's WiFi name and Security key in the mobile broadband manager software on a PC. Choose a name of your preference - try and avoid having names which could suggest that you're on a mobile broadband connection (E.g.: 3UK broadband, mobile E5830, etc). A name that makes sense to you and you alone would be best ('Rudolf the reindeer'?). For your security key protocol, choose WPA-PSK TKIP (that's the default protocol the E5830 comes with). Unless you need to (e.g.: to let older devices connect to the E5830) do not choose WEP as the security protocol - it's a lot less secure than WPA and is easy to break. However easy it might make things, never leave your WiFi network OPEN (i.e. - a password isn't required for connection). |

Q. |
How do others use my E5830 device to join in for gaming, surfing, etc? |
A. |
It's very easy. Just tell your friends what your E5830's Network name (SSID) and password is. (The default Network key can be found both in the box that the E5830 device came in and also on a sticker that you can find on the back of the back cover). They should then use these details to connect to the E5830 via WiFi on their devices. Once successfully connected, they can use your E5830 for internet browsing, online multiplayer gaming, and other online activities. Remember, when you share your internet access, you will also be sharing your data allowance. You can also use the E5830 for Local multiplayer gaming if you've got two PCs or iPod Touches connected to the same E5830. This will not use any of your 15 GB of data allowance (since the gaming you are doing is 'internal' - there's no traffic actually going onto the internet). But do make sure that you use Local multiplayer modes and not online multiplayer games. If in doubt, refer to the device's or the game's manual. We suggest temporarily changing your password before sharing it, to ensure that you control access afterwards |

Q. |
How long does the battery last? |
A. |
Battery life depends on two things - Where you are, and what you're doing. Using the device in an area with poor network coverage will drain the battery more quickly than using it in a good coverage area. A continuous internet activity (streaming video, downloading files, gaming, etc) will give #x hours of battery life in good signal coverage. Important note: The device goes to sleep after 10 minutes of inactivity to preserve battery. Note: Tentative answer. Cannot be verified until proper battery tests are carried out - in test schedule. |
| |
Q. |
How many connections can I have at any one time on one E5830 device? |
A. |
The maximum number of devices that can be connected simultaneously is 5. However, if multiple devices use the internet at the same time (through the E5830), available internet bandwidth is shared amongst them, which can lead to slow internet speed on devices. |
| |
Q. |
How will I connect E5830 to my device (laptop)? |
A. |
In a nutshell: Insert your SIM card into the E5830, and then plug it into the PC using the supplied USB cable. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the E5830 manager software. After setup, unplug your device, and reboot your computer. After restart, plug the device back in and launch the broadband connection manager software, and use it to connect to the internet. |

Q. |
I can browse but the while playing games, the response is too slow, what can I do to improve it? |
A. |
Games generally require a higher bandwidth than browsing activities do. Hence, even though you might be able to browse properly, games might stutter, lag, or experience connection drops. Here's what you can do the improve things:

Q. |
I can play some games like Sudoku &, brainwave but shoot-em-up games don't seem to work sometimes, why? |
A. |
Shoot-em-up games need a lot more bandwidth and quicker responses than puzzle games. Generally, there are a lot more players, lots of movement that needs to be transmitted to you, and a lot of activity going on. This sometimes demands more internet bandwidth than your mobile broadband connection might be able to deliver at that time - hence the problem. |
| |
Q. |
I don't have an installation CD, how will install the drivers? |
A. |
No drivers are needed if you want to use the E5830 with a WiFi device. For the PC, the drivers and software required for your E5830 are stored on the E5830 itself. Just plug it into your PC using the supplied USB cable and the installation program launches. The drivers and software required are installed during the setup process; after a quick reboot, you're good to go. |

Q. |
I've forgotten the security key that I set for the E5830. What do I do? |
A. |
There are two options: You can connect the E5830 to a PC using the USB cable, and then use the Mobile Broadband Manager software to set a new security key. Or, you could press and hold the on/off and WiFi buttons on the device simultaneously for 5 seconds, which will reset all of your settings. You can now use the default SSID and Security key that you received with your E5830. |

Q. |
Is the device compatible / work on Mac, Linux or Windows 7 machines? |
A. |
The PC configuration software for the E5830 can only be installed on Windows PCs. However, the device is completely compatible with Macs, Linux and Windows 7 machines (You might need to tweak the security settings on the E5830 for some Linux distributions). Macs and Linux machines can only be connected to the E5830 via WiFi, and hence it's necessary that the computers have their WiFi cards properly installed and configured. Windows PCs (XP, Vista and 7) support the device over USB as well. |

Q. |
My E5830 won't accept the security key that I'm typing in. |
A. |
The easiest solution to this is to reset the E5830's security key. You can connect the E5830 to a PC using the USB cable, and then use the Mobile Broadband Manager software to set a new security key. Or, you could press and hold the on/off and WiFi buttons on the device simultaneously for 5 seconds, which will reset all of your settings. You can now use the default SSID and Security key that you received with your E5830. |

Q. |
The pass key is really complicated, how will I remember it always? |
A. |
A security key does not have to be complicated to be secure. Try using a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols in your key. Replacing certain letters with symbols is an easy way to create a secure key. The letter 'a' can easily be substituted with a '@'. An 'i' can be '!', an o can be a 0, etc. (For example: If you wanted your password to be JanetWiFi, you could set it as J@n3tW!F! - this makes it secure as well as easy to remember) |
| |
Q. |
There is a SIM card in the box. Where does that go? |
A. |
The E5830 is constructed just like a phone in terms of battery location and SIM card slot. Pop the back off the device, remove the battery and you'll see a slot where you can insert the SIM card. |
